Frequently Asked Questions
If my card is deemed a Diamond candidate in Digital Review, how likely is it to receive the Diamond designation upon in-hand inspection?
While not 100% guaranteed, the likelihood is very strong that a card marked as a Diamond candidate in Digital Review will achieve the designation upon final inspection—provided no unforeseen issues are detected during the hands-on evaluation process.
When a card is identified as a strong Diamond candidate through Digital Review, there is a high probability that it will receive the designation upon in-hand inspection. However, final determination is made only after a comprehensive physical evaluation. This in-hand process allows us to assess aspects that cannot always be captured in 2D images, such as precise surface texture, edge integrity, and any minute flaws that might be obscured by lighting variations.
That said, if you are aware of any issues that are not visible in the images submitted for Digital Review, this will decrease your odds of receiving a Diamond designation upon final inspection. The in-hand evaluation is designed to catch any imperfections that may not be fully captured in a digital image, ensuring that only the most pristine examples earn the Diamond distinction.
While Digital Review serves as an excellent predictor, the in-hand evaluation is the ultimate safeguard to ensure that every Diamond designation aligns with MBA’s highest standards, which are reflected in the grades represented in the market. Our goal is to provide collectors with the highest level of confidence in our process, ensuring that every card awarded a Diamond truly represents the pinnacle of quality and preservation.
